E61 Touring launch — 2004
BMW official Geneva 2004 launch:
- market entry around mid-May 2004;
- four launch variants:
- 525i;
- 545i;
- 525d;
- 530d.

BMW 2004 material:
- 3.0-litre I6 diesel;
- multi-stage / two-stage turbocharging;
- 200 kW / 272 source-bhp;
- 500 Nm already at 1200 rpm;
- 560 Nm @ 2000;
- 0–100: 6.6 s in launch material.
This is an important future diesel-engine node and must later split from the facelift higher-output 535d.
xDrive expansion
During the E60/E61 lifecycle BMW expanded all-wheel-drive 5 Series offerings. Confirmed market-specific nodes include:
- 525xi;
- 530xi;
- 530xi Touring;
- diesel xDrive variants in later European lineups.

MY2008 North America
BMW Canada official material confirms:
- 528i / 528xi: 230 hp;
- 535i / 535xi / 535xi Touring: 300 hp twin-turbo I6;
- 550i: 360 hp 4.8 V8;
- 6MT availability on multiple non-M models.
These North American SAE-power rows must not be merged with European PS rows without unit/market tags.
