F22 launch — 2014

BMW launch material calls the M235i the most powerful petrol member of the then-current M Performance Automobile line-up.

F23 Convertible — 2015

Launch/early confirmed:

• 220i: 184 hp;
• 228i: 245 hp;
• M235i: 326 hp.

M235i Convertible

BMW factory:

• 240 kW / 326 hp;
• 450 Nm;
• 0–100:
• 5.2 s 6MT;
• 5.0 s 8AT;
• Vmax: 250 km/h.

Engine / naming evolution

228i → 230i

2016 update:

• 230i replaces 228i;
• new modular four-cylinder generation;
• output around 252 hp in principal markets.

M235i → M240i

2016:

• M240i replaces M235i;
• new modular I6 generation;
• 340 hp;
• M Performance classification retained.

This is a genuine engine-generation transition and must not be stored as a badge-only facelift.

Diesel ladder

Across F22/F23 lifecycle the European range includes:

• 218d;
• 220d;
• 225d.

Typical late-generation outputs:

• 218d: 150 hp class;
• 220d: 190 hp class;
• 225d: 224 hp class.

xDrive

Confirmed high-performance AWD derivatives:

• M235i xDrive;
• M240i xDrive.

Selected diesel/petrol xDrive availability is market-dependent and remains body/market scoped.
